One of Australia’s most promising golf careers is now in jeopardy after 20-year-old Jeffrey Guan suffered a serious eye injury during the NSW Open regional qualifier at Catalina Club in Batemans Bay.
Freak Accident Leaves Guan in Serious Condition
Fresh off his PGA Tour debut at the Procore Championship in California, Guan was struck by an errant 3-wood shot during the qualifier on Friday. The freak accident caused multiple fractures to his eye socket, leaving him in need of immediate medical attention.
Paramedics treated Guan on-site before he was rushed to Canberra for emergency surgery. Sources close to the situation have revealed that the young star faces the potential risk of permanent damage to his eyesight.
Eye Surgery and Ongoing Treatment
Following the surgery, Guan was transferred to a specialist hospital in Sydney for further care. His long-time coach, Paul Davis, expressed his concern about the severity of the injury, stating, “It’s truly awful… this was the first pro-am Jeff had ever played in. It’s the worst possible news after such an amazing week in California.”
While the full extent of the damage is still unknown, Guan remains under the care of an eye surgeon and is receiving the best treatment available.
A Bright Career in Jeopardy
Guan, widely considered a generational talent in Australian golf, had been building momentum after his US PGA Tour debut. He is also a member of the Golf NSW High Performance & Golf Australia Rookie Squad, making his sudden injury all the more devastating for the golf community.
The PGA of Australia and Golf Australia issued a joint statement, thanking everyone who assisted Guan after the incident and asking for privacy while his recovery continues.
As the golf world waits for updates, all eyes are on Jeffrey Guan, hoping for positive news and a swift recovery for the rising star.
